A quiet but active holiday in the country Kunhegyes, a small town with a population fo 9200, is situated on the north – east border os Nagykunság near the River Tisza, far from large noisy towns and busy roads. It can be reached from Budapest on road No 4 in the direction of Debrecen by turning off into road No 34 at Fegyvernek for another 13 km. Its land is sopped by rippling wheat felds and maize-felds. Mysterious barrows, named „Kunhalom”, outstand from the glowing, yellow sunflower-fields bringing back our ancestors` long-forgotten messages. The town, preserving its traditional characteristics, has active cultural life. Feasts on pig-killing days and the Skansen-like ethnographic collection, displaying agrocultural tools, reflect the atmosphere of a lowland village and the past and everyday life of people living on the Great Plain. The beauty of the Great Plain, the historical buildings facing the elements and the public statues offer pleasant trips to the visitors; thermal and medicinal waters bring rest and recovery; and last but not least the wide range of old, traditional „kun” dishes can satisfy the guests` hunger. Our comfortable peasant houses with archaistic stove and rush covering raise a historical atmosphere. They wait the guests in all year for nostalgia and getting away. In the court are available garden oven, roasting on the spit, skittles and playground. At our country-houses, in accordance with demand, we can organize workman activity (basket-work, bone-lace making, weawing Hungarian cloak embroidering).
