The Gedeon Tanya is situated in the middle of the Kiskunsági National Park, part of the famous Great Hungarian Plain, some 120 kilometres from Budapest. This tranquil, beautiful environment provides the perfect contrast to the noise and the bustle of Budapest. The word "tanya" means homestead, and the personal touch is indeed the hallmark of the Gedeon Tanya. Whether our guests want simply to relax and enjoy the comfortable accommodation, excellent home cooking and spacious countryside, or whether they choose to take part in the many activities available, the Gedeon family will ensure that their stay is a memorable one. The Plain is famous for its horse-riding opportunities, but apart from this we can offer drives and walks to explore the unique wildlife, flora and fauna of the area, open-air barbecues and picnics, visits to the museums and monuments of nearby Kecskemét, and hunting trips. Within a 25 kilometre radius of the tanya are also numerous sites of cultural interest, including a fascinating prison museum, a museum of shepherding and the birthplace of one of Hungary`s greatest poets, Sándor Petőfi. FACILITIES Accommodation The Old House: three historically furnished twin-bedded rooms, self-contained with living room, bathroom and kitchen. The New House: seven tastefully furnished twin-bedded rooms with en-suite bathroom/shower. In addition, we have a co-operative arrangement with a lakeside independent family tanya in Petőfiszállás, allowing us to offer a further 2 rooms (twin or troplenbedded) with bath/shower and full self-catering facilities. Restaurant and Wine Cellar: An attractive 30 seat restaurant and an atmospheric wine cellar seating 60 offer a wide range of traditional Hungarian and international food and drink specialities. SPECIAL PROGRAMME OFFERINGS We are able to offer special programmes in horse-riding, horse carriage rides, gypsy evenings, open-air goulash dinners and other enjoyable events. As a family business, we like to respond personally to the wishes of our customers, and thus we can design programmes to suit individual needs. OPPORTUNITIES FOR 1998-1999 AT THE GEDEON FAMILY `TANYA` Programmes: -One day non-residential programmes -Long or short weekends (these can be on weekdays, too!) -Horse-riding programmes of between 1 and 6 days -Nature trails and education programmes for young people Designed according to the specification of the group organiser or tour operator, these programmes can include horse-riding and tuition, horse shows, folklore programmes and traditional Hungarian countryside games and activities, such as driving the geese and throwing the horseshoe! The typical end of a full day is a candlelit dinner with fine food and wine, and traditional gypsy music. Training Courses and Conferences The Gedeon Tanya is the ideal venue for the smaller training workshop or meeting, with flexible facilities for both whole group and syndicate work. Equipment is available on request. The venue encourages a focus on the work issues at hand, and offers privacy and security for incompany meetings and conferences. Prices are quoted in Deutsche Marks but payable in Hungarian Forints. Low season prices and group discounts are available on application.
